The Wii may be experiencing another kind of hardware shortage. Wii Fit's launch day is a little over a week away (May 19, 2008), and it's getting tougher to find online for pre-ordering. Because of the included hardware, the Wii Balance Board, initial stock may not be as easy to crank out like a game disc. Amazon.com is reporting to have run out of its allotment of Wii Fit.
From Amazon: "As you may know, the Nintendo "Wii Fit" is in great demand, and there are shortages of this product across the U.S. In an effort to provide as many customers as possible with the opportunity to purchase "Wii Fit" from Amazon.com, we are actively seeking more of this product from suppliers. Please check back soon to see if more are available."
Looks like GameStop.com isn't taking any more online pre-orders either. Other retailers, such as Circuit City, Best Buy, Target and Toys R Us, aren't offering online pre-orders. An online retailer that's currently taking pre-orders is Walmart, which is including a $10 gift card through 5/11/08. If you're thinking about picking up Wii Fit during launch, you may want to check that out soon. You can always try your local retailer, such as GameStop. GameStop is offering a $60 discount on Wii Fit with a trade-in of 3 select Wii games (see in-store flyer for details), and you may be able to reserve it with $10 down.
Let us know if you have any tips on where to pre-order Wii Fit!
A multiplayer patch has been released for the PLAYSTATION 3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV. The patch addresses multiplayer gameplay, not the freezing issues experienced by some.
From Rockstar Games: "Rockstar Games has released a GTA IV patch for PlayStation 3 today that prevents GameSpy's servers from being overloaded and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up. We continue to monitor the performance of the game both on and offline and will provide further updates as necessary. We want to assure everyone that, together with our hardware partners, we continue to strive to give our fans the best possible interactive entertainment experiences possible. This update will ensure that everyone will experience Grand Theft Auto IV the way it was intended. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused."
The next time you launch your online connected PLAYSTATION 3, you'll be prompted that the 1.01 patch is available. The download is about 18 MB.
Bethesda Softworks announced details on the Fallout 3 soundtrack. The soundtrack is composed by Inon Zur. Inon Zur's experience includes "Hollywood film trailers, network television productions, CGI movies, and symphony concerts." Zur's game soundtrack experience includes titles such as Crysis, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, and Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War: Dark Crusade.
“We’ve wanted to work with Inon for a long time,” said Todd Howard executive producer of Fallout 3. “He brings so much to the table, in terms of his talent, background, and the music that’s influenced him. He’s created a score that has epic sweep; from the lonely ambience of the wasteland to dramatic fights for survival.”
Some samples of the Fallout 3 soundtrack, including the main title track, can be heard here. Sounds like a great accompaniment to a dramatic post-nuclear wasteland.

This month, Ubisoft will be bringing Protöthea to the WiiWare side of Nintendo's Wii. The game will be a 3d top-down shooter that vertically scrolls the screen. Players will control a spaceship using both the Wii remote and the Nunchuck attachment, and the graphics should fully utilize the capabilities of the Wii. The press release itself states:
"The compelling storyline immerses players into an adventure where they will need to destroy an asteroid called "Maqno 01" and sabotage the plans of a political faction called "The Core." Players will quickly jump right in and guide their ship through multiple missions on futuristic planets where enemy AI is dynamic and will change based on the player's actions - so there are no predictable enemy paths, and therefore always a different game play experience. Players will have a wide range of eight different air-to-air weapons and two different air-to-ground bombs at their disposal, and can attack however they choose. In addition, there is a special power that decelerates time, allowing players to easily avoid enemy fire while they are able to move rapidly and attack enemies."
While we know that Protöthea is rated "E" for Everyone, no pricing information or exact release information was mentioned. Once we have more information we will make sure to post it.
Grand Theft Auto IV has made entertainment history. Today, Take-Two Interactive announced that Grand Theft Auto IV has sold "approximately 6 million units globally with an estimated retail value of more than $500 million in the first week." Launch day estimates (4/29/08) were at 3.6 million units, taking in $310 million in day one (global sales).
From Take-Two: "We knew Grand Theft Auto IV would break new ground in terms of the player's experience, with its compelling story line, extraordinary gameplay and action that ranges over a broad urban canvas. Now, it has broken sales and rating records as well. Grand Theft Auto IV's first week performance represents the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment, and we believe these retail sales levels surpass any movie or music launch to date. We congratulate the entire Rockstar team on creating a must-have experience that takes the legendary Grand Theft Auto franchise to a new level," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two.
Today, Ubisoft confirmed that a playable demo for Haze will be coming to the US PlayStation Store tomorrow. The demo was released yesterday on the European PlayStation Network, following the PlayStation Day event. The demo features a sample of the single-player campaign, online 2-4 player co-op (drop-in/drop-out play), and 2-player split-screen play.
From Ubisoft: "Haze 4 Player Co-op / Campaign Demo: *Salva Region*:
It’s finally time to feed your addiction…the playable demo for Haze has arrived. Take a Nectar-induced romp solo style, or with 3 of your friends in fierce co-op action through the Salva Region, a bright and high-octane environment, where explosions are huge and delightful, and deaths are fleeting and meaningless. It’s the only place on earth where you can blow a stranger’s head off with a jolly smile on your face. The green-orange vegetation teams with primary-coloured, unthreatening wildlife for the marines to trample all over. The sunshine beats down in comforting waves as you merrily murder your fellow man. This world makes you feel confident. Artificially so and like a dream."
Nintendo has delivered messages to Wii systems notifying Wii gamers that a new Nintendo Channel is now available.
From Nintendo: "The Nintendo Channel allows you to search and review the latest product information on software titles for both Wii and Nintendo DS. Additional features allow you to download demos of DS software to your Nintendo DS, and a polling feature will tabulate user opinions, making it easier to search for games that are best suited for you."
Make sure you run a system update before downloading. The Nintendo Channel can be downloaded from the Wii Shop. Seems like traffic was heavy early this morning, as getting a connection to the Wii Shop may be tough.

If there's one thing you have to give Eye of Judgment, it's creativity for its characters. Sure there are some traditional creatures you can expect in a fantasy game. Skeletons, dwarves and dragons. But where can you find whales with fish tanks on their heads, two-headed wolves with souls chained on their backs and salamander riding elves? Those are some of the characters in the recently released Set 2 cards for the Eye of Judgment.
Eye of Judgment is my game away from games, when I want to sit back and chill out to some fantasy gameplay. It's more about strategy than how fast you are with your fingers. Seeing the characters come to life on the screen, via the PlayStation Eye, is part of the addiction in collecting all the oddities found in the Eye of Judgment world.
See some of the character artwork from Eye of Judgment here. Visit the official website of Eye of Judgment here to find out more about it.
