Wii Has Custom Soundtracks Option E-mail
Nintendo News Bits

Saturday, 11 November 2006
NIntendo's upcoming Wii console (only a week until release!) will support custom soundtracks. IGN discovered the option from a retail box copy of the Wii game, Excite Truck. Players will be able to select an SD Card with mp3s from the Sound Options screen to have their music play during the game.

From Excite Truck's instruction manual:
How to Select Music Tracks:
1. Insert your SD Card into the Wii console.

2. Begin or continue a game and enter any race. Before the race begins, press + on the Wii Remote to access the Sound Options screen.

3. Select the "SD Card" option.

4. Any MP3 files available on your SD Card will be displayed (100 songs maximum). To choose a specific song for the race you are about to enter, highlight that song. You can also choose to randomize all songs shown for that course. Highlighting "Default" will play the standard in-game music.

5. Press 1 to return to the Sound Options menu, then 1 again to return to the pre-race screen. You can also use the "Sound" command at any point during the race to change the current song.

Gears of War "Emergence Week" As Shipping Hampers Release E-mail
Xbox 360 News Bits
Written by Rivithed
Thursday, 09 November 2006
Gamers eager to pickup a copy of Gears of War since Tuesday's shipment announcement are likely to be feeling more of an "Emergence Week" instead of an "Emergence Day."

"If you're here for Gears of War, go to the right," yelled a Best Buy employee as he formed up a group of about twenty customers who showed up on the opening hours of the store on Wednesday. The employee, sounding more like a drill sergeant at this point, addresses the group: "We have not received the shipment we were anticipating as of yet. Come back later or call the store to see when it has arrived." Dismissed! A disappointment it was to the eager Gearheads.

Customers who pre-ordered from GameStop/EB Games who received a call Tuesday night that their pre-order was coming in may have also received a disappointing follow-up message. On Wednesday an automated message was delivered that advised customers to call their local store before attempting to pick up Gears of War, as shipping problems may have caused a delay. Some gamers even posted on the Xbox.com forums that their pre-order had been sold to other customers.

Typically when a game is released, a date is announced to give everyone an equal opportunity to sell or buy a game, as stores hold their inventory in the stock rooms. Microsoft may just have been just as eager to sell Gears of War as gamers have been eager to get it, allowing Gears of War to be sold as retailers received the shipments.

So if you haven't picked up Gears of War, don't give up as today will likely be more promising! Let us know how your experience in getting Gears of War went for you!

New Los Angeles Convention Center Gaming Expo Open To The Public E-mail
General Gaming News Bits
Written by Rivithed
Thursday, 09 November 2006
A new gaming expo coming to the Los Angeles Convention Center is set to take the spotlight from the Entertainment Software Association's (ESA) former E3 event. The International Data Group (IDG), whose experience includes the MacWorld Expo, will be running the expo to take place during October 18-20, 2007. Unlike E3, it will be a consumer driven expo open to the general public. The "E3 Media and Business Summit," which is the scaled down E3 event, said they are endorsing IDG's event.

Originally to be named "GamePro Expo," taking the name of IDG's GamePro magazine, IDG is holding a "Named By Gamers" contest. From the Gamepro.com post: "Send us your best idea for a name, and if we choose to use it you will win a trip for two to the new event special with behind-the-scenes access! The prize package includes round trip air fare for two, hotel and local transportation, plus a ton of other cool goodies." The contest will be run until November 20, 2006 and the winning name will be selected by the end of November 2006.

Enter the contest here! Hopefully they'll be able to handle the hordes of us gamers!

The anticipation for Gears of War is on overdrive today, during the next few hours before release. Gears of War will be available starting today at retailers (although most have advertised or announced Wednesday as the release date). Ratings for Gears of War have yet to emerge, but Gamerscore Blog is reporting on two perfect ratings: "OXM (Official Xbox Magazine) gave it a perfect 10 out of 10 score, and G4 TV's X-Play gave it a perfect 5 out of 5 score (watch it Tuesday, 8 p.m. EST)".

More reviews will surely be coming in over the next couple of days. Keep a lookout at Gamerankings.com for reviews on Gears of War. Not that any non-perfect ratings will deter Gearheads who have been anticipating Gears of War, including 'ol Rivithed.

Have you picked up Gears of War today? If so, let us know where! See you on Emergence Day!

Microsoft has announced agreements with CBS, MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, Turner Broadcasting System Inc. (TBS Inc.), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment to bring standard and high-definition movies and television shows to the Xbox 360 gaming console.

From Microsoft's press release: "Beginning Nov. 22, on its first anniversary, Xbox 360 will be the first gaming console in history to provide high-definition TV shows and movies directly to gamers in their living rooms. Xbox 360 gamers will have access to the full-length TV shows as downloads to own and movies to rent via download from the Xbox Live® network, the worldwide leader in online distribution of high-definition gaming and entertainment content. This announcement also brings with it several additional “firsts”:

For the first time, consumers will get an integrated gaming and entertainment experience on a gaming console that includes downloadable high-definition TV shows and movies. This new full-length content adds to the ever-expanding number of choices gamers have on their Xbox 360, whether they want to play games or play a movie on a disc or as a download in high definition or standard definition."

Several of the movies announced were:
“M:i:III,” Nacho Libre” and “Jackass: The Movie” from Paramount Pictures and “The Matrix,” “Superman Returns” and “Batman Forever” from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

It'll be interesting to see if a new hard drive is introduced to handle the need for greater storage capacity of the digital downloads. Would this announcement affect your purchasing decision on the upcoming Xbox 360 HD DVD player?
