Nintendo's Press Release Encoded With Wii Release Date of October 2nd? E-mail

Numerous gaming sites are reporting that a press release from Nintendo yesterday does contain an encoded release date for the Wii console. Here are various gaming sites that have clues which may point to an October 2nd release date:

No official word is expected to come from Nintendo until September. Nintendo is having some fun playing with gamers in the meantime.

Konami 's Zone of Enders title may be headed to the Sony PSP portable. PSP Fanboy is reporting that the gaming site Jeux-France says the mech combat game from Kojima Productions is coming to the PSP.

Third party game publishers are releasing their "Greatest Hits" games for the Sony PSP, putting the retail price for the games at $19.99. The following games will be added to the PSP's Greatest Hits:

Pick up this month's PSP Content Pack here and get treated to a two minute trailer of the upcoming PS2 game, God of War 2.

Content includes wallpapers (Lollapalooza schedules and artist bios, Ozzfest backgrounds, Warped Tour backgrounds, Blade Dancer backgrounds), Screenshots (GTA Liberty City Stories, Micro Machines, Audio (Warped Tour tracks) and Video (Warped Tour GAP video and GOW2 trailer).

God of War 2 is scheduled for a February 2007 release.

Microsoft and Megadeth team up in a Gears of War sponsored tour, Gigantour. Plenty of heavy metal to be at the show. "Gears of War" is also the third track listed on Megadeth's upcoming "United Abominations" CD.

Microsoft's Upcoming Flight Simulator X Will Feature Highly Accurate Map Data E-mail

Microsoft's Upcoming 10th edition of "Flight Simulator" will be using NAVTEQ map data to bring "highly accurate map data as a real-world foundation of street level detail."

The data that NAVTEQ will be bringing:
- Optimizing the modeling of the real world with nearly 200 land and water classifications, over 20 environmental and cultural regions, 12 monthly seasons and 7500 texture tiles (e.g. farm, city, forest, lava);

- Bringing the world to life, as the data integrates and automatically generates ground vehicle traffic, railway simulation and water-based cargo and leisure ships (including types of vehicles, traffic congestion, accidents, direction of travel);

- Displaying the size of streets (including approximate number of lanes), street names, bridges, and tunnels.

"Flight Simulator X" will offer online game play where you can be a pilot, co-pilot or air-traffic control and communicate in real-time via headsets. This will be the first release of the "Flight Simulator" series to offer structured game play with more than 55 missions. Microsoft's "Flight Simulator X" is scheduled for release on PCs this holiday season, 2006. Read more about Flight Simulator X here.

A video of an upcoming Star Wars game demonstrates what LucasArts plans to bring to next-gen consoles. The video below is a "pre-visualization" (aka not in-game) of a Star Wars game coming to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The clip was shown behind doors at this year's E3 and distributed to Hyperspace members.

Sony PSP Firmware Update Coming, New Demo, PS3 Functionality E-mail

Sony's Playstation Portable will be getting a firmware update for RSS Video feed support on its web browser as well as a demo of World Tour Soccer 2. Look for it this Thursday, 7/27/06. The PSP will also function as a remote for the PS3. Looks like some form of integration with video and the PS3 is going to happen (see an earlier report here).

Video out from the PSP is in the works and the Sony Connect service is working on a way to provide downloadable movies for the PSP. Read more from IGN.
