The creator that helped spawn FPS games such as Wolfenstein, Quake and Doom believes that mobile cell phone gaming is the gateway to game development and new IPs. Carmack's first cell phone adventure game of "Doom" proved successful. Carmack recently released "Orcs and Elves," id Software's newest unique game on ea-mobile.com.
From CNN Money's interview with Carmack: "It sucks to risk $20 million on a new title these days," he said. "The industry sees maybe one truly new game per year. And we're as guilty of this at id (Software) as anyone. I mean, we have 'Doom 3,' 'Quake 4,' 'Wolfenstein'. It's not a bad thing. The industry likes that reliability and the consumer knows what they like."

Jonathan Choquel, aka “Djon”, is one of the creative minds behind Atari’s upcoming Sony PSP game Hot Pxl. Hot Pxl features 200 mini-games, some of which are based on classic/retro Atari games re-worked with a street culture flavor. The 200 mini-games are faced paced gaming quick fixes, easy to jump in and out of. More games can be downloaded online via the Sony PSP, right from when you pop Hot Pxl in at its release.
“[Hot Pxl] will be able to see which games you are good at and which games you suck at and be able to create custom playlists based on that,” said Djon. Playing in “Theatre Mode” will let you play through different levels of difficulty of a particular game you like, while playing in “Story Mode” will let you play through all the games randomly. Multiplayer gaming will be supported, where you can send extra handicaps to an opponent you are playing with. The game has been optimized on the Sony PSP to avoid loading time. Some un-lockable items you can get from the mini games are Djon’s exclusive video podcasts, from his site “StreetSmartCoolCat”.
Djon’s site, StreetSmartCoolCat, broadcasts “video dopcasts”, video blogs about street culture, its globalization and digital lifestyle. He’ll teach you the basics of deejaying, how to make a custom skateboard with a PSP holder (named “Sexy Rosa”), how to do some skateboarding tricks and how to create a hip-hop beat. “Street culture is the basis of the new youth culture,” stated Djon, “Its game-reality.”
