Xbox 360 News Bits
Written by Rivithed
Tuesday, 02 May 2006
After a brief outage today, xbox.com added a new "Messaging Center". The following is a summary of the Messaging Center features from xbox.com:

All My Xbox users (Xbox Live Silver and Gold users as well as those who just signed up here on Xbox.com) can now read text messages in the My Xbox Message Center. So someone can send you a message from their Xbox 360™ console and you can read it on your PC.

Xbox Live Gold members can compose and send messages in the My Xbox Message Center. The character limit is the same as on the Xbox 360 console: 250 characters.

Xbox Live Gold members can send messages (up to 200 per day) to gamers who are on their friends list.

Xbox Live Gold members can send messages (up to 25 per day) to other gamers not on their friends list.

All My Xbox users can block communications with other gamers. Designate a gamertag as blocked and you won't get any more messages from them. Change your mind? Unblock a gamer simply by sending them a message.

In addition to the Messaging Center, the "My Xbox" profile page has been updated. Read more from Major Nelson here.

Ubisoft Developing Next-Gen "Assassin's Creed" E-mail
Games Coming Soon
Written by Rivithed
Tuesday, 02 May 2006
Ubisoft Montreal, developers of the Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell games, announced they will be developing "Assassin's Creed" exclusively for the next-gen consoles.

"The first game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise is set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart. Shrouded in secrecy and feared for their ruthlessness, the Assassins intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict. Players, assuming the role of the main character Altair, will have the power to throw their immediate environment into chaos and to shape events during this pivotal moment in history."

Edit: It is unconfirmed if this is a PS3 exclusive, as Gamespot reported in an article from the X05 Conference: "Singling out Ubisoft for praise, Moore also revealed that two PlayStation 3 games from the publisher would also be coming to the Xbox 360: Gearbox-developed WWII shooter Brothers in Arms 3 (tentative), and the still-mysterious Project Assassin, which looks like a bloodier version of Thief."

EA Announces "Army of Two" For PS3 and Xbox 360 E-mail
Games Coming Soon
Written by Rivithed
Tuesday, 02 May 2006
Electronic Arts has announced its upcoming two player co-op game "Army of Two", coming to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in 2007. "Army of Two is a first for EA in many ways. This is the first EA studio to be built entirely from the ground-up. This is EA's first original title for the next-gen systems. Army of Two is the first game to put players inside tactical warfare involving Private Military Corporations", said Alain Tascan, VP/GM of EA Montreal, developer of Army of Two.

Centering around two player co-op strategies to complete missions, the player can take on missions with a friend or with an AI character. "This is the game we've always wanted to create. Until now, the hardware would not allow us to deliver truly intelligent AI characters.", commented Reid Schneider, a Senior Producer at EA Montreal.
