Another Unreal Tournament III mod mixes gaming platforms together on the PLAYSTATION 3. Imagine this as kind of a "Subspace Emissary" mode from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Epic Games Unreal Tournament 3 forums have a 2D mod, UT2D 1.0, created by jbizzler, and a Super Mario Map Beta mod, by FrontAXL, that will turn the FPS to a side-scrolling 2D Super Mario inspired level. Check out a video below of it in action, featuring Master Chief and Marcus Fenix skins.
To get the mods on your PLAYSTATION 3, you'll need to install two "USERDATA.JAM" files:
- First, download the "UT2D 1.0" mod, available from a link here. Once you've downloaded the file, move it to the main directory of a USB drive to transfer it to your PLAYSTATION 3.
- Load Unreal Tournament 3 on the PLAYSTATION 3.
- Select "Community"
- Select "My Content"
- Press the [SQUARE] button to "Import Mod"
Once that is installed, download the "UT2D-SuperMario_Beta1" mod, available from here. Follow the same steps as above to import and install the UT2D-SuperMario_Beta1 "USERDATA.JAM" file.
You'll be able to select from four options when you choose "Instant Action": UT2D Deathmatch, UT2D Team Deathmatch, UT2D Capture The Flag, UT2D Duel. You can then select the UT2D-SuperMario_Beta1 map. Enjoy the UT3 deathmatch in the NES inspired Super Mario map! Unreal Tournament III is currently available for the PLAYSTATION 3 for $30.99.

Since its 2004 debut on the PlayStation 2, the SingStar series has sold more than 12 million units in the PAL region alone, as announced by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE). For fiscal year 2007, SingStar sold 5 million units. SingStar launched for the PLAYSTATION 3 in the PAL region on December 2007. The online SingStore launched for the PLAYSTATION 3 release, where players could purchase individual tracks. One million tracks have been downloaded from the SingStore to date.
Mark Hardy, Director of Product Marketing of SCEE stated: “The term ‘social gaming’ is widely recognised in 2008 – however, it was relatively new when we launched the first SingStar title in 2004. That game entered the charts at number one in many countries, allowing us to pioneer the social gaming category and a new market of consumers who might not have bought games before. We really are teaching the world to sing with SingStar – and business for 2008 is looking excellent.”
SingStar (PLAYSTATION 3) will launch for North America in late May 2008. See more details and a trailer for the US release here.
Wii Fit launched just yesterday in the UK (£69.99) and EU (€89.99). Day one sales are sounding good, from an early indication at UK's Woolworths.
From webuser.co.uk: "Nintendo's Wii Fit game was launched today and has been selling at the rate of 90 copies per minute in Woolworths, the store claimed."
"This is a revolution in computer gaming. For a game not targeted at gamers to sell in numbers like this is unheard of and is genuinely changing the market," said Woolworths games trading manager Gerry Berkley.

Get a head start on creating your Spore species with the "Spore Creature Creator." Electronic Arts has announced that a PC and Mac downloadable demo for the Spore Creature Creator will be available on June 17, 2008. By making the Spore Creature Creator available several months before the September 7th release, gamers can experiment in creating their own species and later import them into the full retail release of Spore. The demo will allow use of 25% of the creature-making parts, while the full retail version will give players full access to all the creature-making parts in the game.
“We are thrilled to finally be putting the creative tools of Spore into the hands of players around the world,” said Will Wright, chief designer, Maxis. “The amazing creations players design this summer will help populate the game universe we all enter when Spore ships this September, so in a sense, the Spore Creature Creator is the birth of Spore.”
Electronic Arts has released the second Developer Diary video for Dead Space, "The Story of Dead Space." The video has some of Dead Space's producers discussing the drive behind the game: the story. See what "planet mining" is all about and watch preview bits of gameplay throughout the video as well.
From EA: "Get behind the scenes of Dead Space and learn what it takes to develop its bleak future universe and dark, disturbing story. Check out the second Developer Diary Video that offers in-depth interviews with the Dead Space development team on the evolution of the world and story of Dead Space."
Dead Space reminds me of the old school Commodore 64 game, Project Firestart, with much better visuals of course. The game was also published by Electronic Arts in 1989. Dead Space will be released on October 31, 2008 for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3.
Although we thought Rockstar Games wouldn't be releasing any more trailers of Grand Theft Auto IV after "Good Lord What Are You Doing," this one slips in. But it's really a trailer for the lead man, Niko Bellic. See the video below.
From Rockstar Games:
"What does the American Dream mean today?
For Niko Bellic, fresh off the boat from Europe, it is the hope he can escape his past.
For his cousin, Roman, it is the vision that together they can find fortune in Liberty City, gateway to the land of opportunity."
