European (and other PAL regions) PlayStation fans will be disappointed to hear that Sony Europe (SCEE) has announced that there will be no Playstation 3 consoles available until March 2007. From the official press release (see below) from SCEE, production problems with the Blu-ray drive technology have slowed the launch. Sony was touting a November 2006 global launch for its Playstation 3. Japan is still set for a November 11, 2006 release and the United States will get a November 17, 2006 release. Launch numbers are currently looking like 100,000 PS3 consoles for Japan and 400,000 PS3 consoles in the US (read more from Next Generation). Not sure how many of you are still planning on getting a PS3, but looks like we have a pretty major shortage. This may also lead to game publishers holding back on releasing games on the PS3 until a larger distribution of the PS3 is possible.
