Today, Sony announced that the Playstation 3 (PS3) with 20GB hard disk drive (HDD) will come equipped with HDMI output as standard with the system. From a Sony press release in Tokyo: "Since SCEI first announced product specifications of PS3 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in May 2005, demand for enjoying full HD quality image and realistic digital sound through HDMI has grown tremendously. Given the sharp increase in availability of flat displays supporting HDMI in the market, SCEI has decided to equip HDMI as standard on all PS3 systems. So HDMI will come standard in all PS3 consoles sold. Previous specs from Sony had the 60 gig PS3 with the HDMI port and the 20 gig model without it. The US Playstation 3 specs page was not updated at the time of this writing, but be sure to check back soon. Wonder how much influence Microsoft's announcement of the Xbox 360 supporting 1080p resolution had on this decision from Sony?
