Capcom issued a press release today that announced the closing of its subsidiary game developer, Clover Studio. The game development studio was formed in July 2004 and sought to promote creative and imaginative games, using the name "clover" as an abbreviation of "creativity lover." Undoubtedly, Okami is one of their unique titles, released for the PS2 a little less than a month ago and still receiving high ratings.
From the notice: "Reason for the Dissolution: Clover Studio Co., Ltd. has met the goal of developing unique and creative original home video game software, however, in view of promoting a business strategy that concentrates management resources on a selected business to enhance the efficiency of the development power of the entire Capcom group, the dissolution of Clover Studio Co., Ltd. has been raised and passed at a Board of Directors' meeting." Is this another blow to creative game developers with unique gaming concepts? Or is it a decision by Capcom to redirect the focus of Shinji Mikami (creator of Resident Evil), partner of Clover Studio, to a larger established gaming franchise such as Resident Evil? Good or evil? Read the report here from Capcom.
