Nintendo hit the Ocean Drive strip of South Beach, Florida for an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming Wii console. Held today, November 11th at the Tides Hotel, Nintendo (and Mario) hosted a hands-on playable event from 11am-4pm.

Playable games included WarioWare Smooth Moves, Wii Play, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, Excite Truck and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Food and snacks were cookin' on the penthouse rooftop. Kids and reporters were having a good time playing Wii games.

"Wii Play" was fun, although I couldn't get a confirmation if and/or when the title would be available. I overlooked a brief game of Zelda Twilight Princess, but didn't want to spoil anything, so I did not play it (that's going to be an experience I want to see fresh on my Wii console!). I had a go at Excite Truck again (the GameStop kiosk I played it on last week helped to give me experience to be a show-off this time!). Looked like plenty of people were having a good time, and everything was so white and blue. Speaking of blue, some of you have been curious on when/why the blue light around the disc insert stays on sometimes and not on others. Nintendo does turn on the blue light intentionally at their kiosks, whereas in other places (like Gamestop) it would be off. So Nintendo is intentionally doing that, as it is not a regular function of the Wii (for the light to always be on).

Check out pictures of the event below and some nice Wii goods given away! We'll have some videos posted shortly of a Wii DVD preview distributed at the event. Thanks Nintendo crew, Edna and Willy!

Only 8 days until Wii's launch!
