There's been reports from various sites that the Xbox 360 has been overheating. The "power brick" is thought to be the reason behind it. Hmm... Hasn't happened to my console yet. The overheating supposedly happens after over five hours of game play. So if you are playing your xbox 360 over 5 hours, don't forget to suspend the power brick in the air with some string, ok? Or you can try keeping the console vertical in a well vented area, having the power brick on a flat, non-carpet surface and maybe playing in three hour intervals instead of eight.
