If you've been playing Zelda or Red Steel, you may be feeling a bit of the Wii's muddy palette. As good looking as the games may seem, you could definitely get a much crisper picture using Nintendo's First Party Wii Component Video Cable. The Wii Component Cables have been in short supply, however, Nintendo.com's Online Store has just relisted the availability.
From Nintendo's Online Store: "The Wii Component Video Cable allows you to hook your Wii console system to a high-definition TV (HDTV) or enhanced-definition TV (EDTV) to view 480p progressive output. 480p progressive output displays at a higher resolution than standard 480i resolution." To see comparisons between the Wii's included composite cables to the $29.99 Wii Component Cable, look at the screenshots posted on Gamespot.com here. Supplies of the cable are still limited, as the Online Nintendo Store notes: "Due to limited supplies, Wii Component Video Cables orders are limited to one per household. Any duplicate orders will be canceled without notification". A third party Wii Component Cable will be available soon, for much cheaper at $7 (here). And if you are feeling really bold, you can follow instructions on this page to make one for yourself. For gamers that have Nintendo GameCube games, you'll finally be able to experience them in better definition on the Wii. Several GameCubes supported Digital Out, in which a component cable was available for a very limited time. For more information on using the Wii Component Cable, check this link on Nintendo.com.
