Sony has released an update to the PS3's Display resolution glitch. The glitch was causing some HD sets to scale down to 480p when a 720p game was inserted. I had the annoyance of having to manually set the display from 1080p or 1080i to 720p resolution before starting up Resistance: Fall of Man to avoid the resolution from being scaled from 1080 to 480. We can confirm the update does work, so this Software Update should take care of the HD resolution problem some PS3 gamers may be experiencing. It looks like the resolution is upscaled to the highest possible setting on your HD TV.
If you understand Japanese, the Sony Japan PS3 site lists details on the 1.3 update. Some things which may have been updated in the System Settings include:
- Backup Utility: Backup your PS3's internal harddrive to an external harddrive. We'll let you know when we hear of more details from the US PS3 site. UPDATE: Under Display settings, there is an option to check/uncheck all resolutions your HD set can display.
