Nintendo has heard (or seen) how those Wii Remotes can become projectiles in some over-enthusiastic gamer's hands and is offering to replace the original Wii Remote straps with a tougher version. The replacement will be shipped to you for free, after providing your Wii's serial number. Wii console shipments are already being packaged with the newer, tougher Wii Remote strap.
From Nintendo: "Nintendo is offering to replace the original version of the wrist straps for the Wii Remote with a newer version. Because Wii consoles shipped starting in early December already utilized the newer version of the strap, you will need to determine which version of the strap you have before ordering a replacement." Go to this page on Nintendo.com to put in a request for a Wii Remote strap replacement (up to four). Replacement Wii Remote straps are scheduled to start shipping by December 21, 2006.
