Wii gamers waiting on their replacement Wii Remote Straps should be receiving them now, or in the upcoming days. The replacement Wii Remote Straps have been shipping since December 22, 2006 and should be received by Wii customers who put in a replacement request, via the Nintendo.com web site (here).
The Wii Remote strap replacements are offered for free from Nintendo for customers who purchased a Wii console or Wii Remotes before or early in December 2006. You can find out if you have the older strap by viewing this comparison picture of the newer and older strap. Below is a picture that shows the new Wii Remote Strap we've received from Nintendo, next to an original Wii Remote Strap that had already begun wearing out, exposing the thin wire cable inside the surrounding cloth material. The new replacement strap has a thicker cloth material surrounding the wire, as well being slightly longer in length. We put in a request for four replacement straps on December 15, 2006 and Nintendo actually sent eight straps (in two small packages), which were received on December 27, 2006.
