Gaming is definitely evolving to a more tactile experience. The success of games like Guitar Hero, DDR, the Wii console and Nintendo's DS are a testament to that. The next generation of gaming is all about immersing you in the game.
Here's a peripheral that adds a tactile experience to PC gaming. The Mercury News reports on the upcoming Novint Falcon force-feedback controller, from the CES Unveiled event. By operating your movements with a ball, attached to a larger spherical base, you can move around a 3d environment, feel it push back in response to "touching" objects on screen or give resistance to simulate weight when you pick up an object. The suggested retail price is $239, but it can be purchased for $189 if pre-ordered. It's been in the works for over ten years, since 1995, but will be available in June 2007. Watch for it at the official site (not online at the time of this posting).
