Just one day before the March 23rd launch of the European/PAL Playstation 3, you'll be able to download the PS3's Firmware Update 1.6. This update features some notable updates.

Version 1.6 features to include:

- Background Downloading: Use your PS3 while downloading files. It's been noted the use will be limited, so playing blu-ray games while downloading may not be possible. No confirmation on that as of yet, but at least you won't be stuck watching a progress bar and hopefully the download will pause and not abort when playing.

- Access Your PS3 via your PSP with Remote Play Over Wireless Network: Remote Play will be compatible with 20 gig PS3s, over a wireless network. Previously, the 60 gig PS3 only worked with the PSP's Remote Play feature (as shown in this video tutorial). The 20 gig version will be able to remote play with the PSP if it is connected to a wireless network.

- Folding@home: Use your PS3 to aid in protein folding research. Check out a video report here and screenshots and the official announcement here.

- Full-size On-screen Keyboard: Those not accustomed to Sony's text entry interface on the PS3/PSP will have the option of using traditional full-size on-screen keyboard for text entry. No more holding down a button to toggle different characters.

- Web Browser auto adjusts font size for your screen: Reading text at the 1080 HD setting can be a pain on the PS3's web browser. 1.6 will address that by adjusting the font size according to the video output settings.

Keep a lookout on Thursday, March 22nd for the 1.6 update. We'll bring you more information once it is released later this week.

As confirmed by IGN.
