Experience 1080p tennis on your Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 with Virtua Tennis 3, now available from SEGA. Virtua Tennis 3 allows you to customize your own player and take it on a World Tour. By playing different mini-games your player's skills increase. You start out in last place, #300, on the worldwide ranking list on a quest to make it to #1. You have 20 (in-game) years to do it.
Virtua Tennis 3 makes it easy to jump into the gameplay, as your coach tips you along the way. There are twelve mini games that help improve your stats. The mini games are fun, with oddball objectives like collecting fruit while avoiding huge tennis balls to improve your footwork, hitting a spool to pull back alligators from eating meat chops in Feeding Time to improve volleying skills, protecting your tennis prizes from being knocked over in Prize Defender and even a bowling style game with Pin Crusher, where you improve your servings skills by knocking down pins. The mini games are also playable with up to four people for party gaming. They're a fun addition that makes it easy for the less hardcore sports gamers to get into the game. The PS3 version makes use of the PS3's SIXAXIS motion control, but don't expect similar gameplay to Wii Sports' Tennis. Note that gameplay on Wii Tennis is centered around the stroke of the tennis racket and not movement of your character on court. The PS3's SIXAXIS controls your character and your swings, so don't expect intuitive controls. It doesn't add anything but frustration in player control. The PS3 version does not support online play. The Xbox 360 version supports Xbox Live Tournaments and VT.TV mode (like PGR3's Gotham TV), where you can watch gamers play in real-time. In typical "Virtua" style, you'll unlock more gear to further customize the look of your player. From rackets, footwear, clothing and accessories. You'll also come across tennis pros such as Venus Williams, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Taylor Dent and more. There are 20 licensed names.
Virtua Tennis 3 has plenty of gameplay options to keep you busy. Coming from a gamer that isn't much of a sports gaming player, Virtua Tennis 3 is easy to get into and advances you at a good pace. The addictive gameplay had me pushing my player to its limits, which you'll have to watch or you'll lose weeks of gaming time in your career! Virtua Tennis 3 is now available for the Xbox 360 ($49.99) Visit the official Virtua Tennis 3 web site here for more information and screenshots.
