Xbox Live and Xbox.com have been down just about the whole day, but an update of the status should be coming soon. Larry Hyrb, aka Major Nelson, has been keeping in touch with the Xbox masses through his Twitter.com account. His own site, MajorNelson.com, has been hit with a flood of traffic taking that service down (at the time of this writing). It should be on fairly soon, if not by the time you read this.
Major Nelson noted on his Twitter.com page: "Ohhh...I have a surprise for you later today :)". Xbox 360 Elite? Halo 3 Beta? We'll bring you an update as soon as we find out more! UPDATE: Xbox Live and Xbox.com are now online. So far, the only thing we've come across is a required update for Gears of War after inserting it. Could some new content be coming for Gears of War soon? We'll bring another update here soon, possibly at 12:01am!
