Wondering when your Wii (or Mii) will be able to venture into online multiplayer games? Without a doubt, the Xbox 360 currently leads in leaps for it's online multiplayer gameplay and community. The PS3 provides some online multiplayer gaming, although some games such as Virtua Tennis and Virtua Fighter do not have online play, where the Xbox 360 releases do. The PS3 also plans to build its community along the backbone of Home. While Nintendo's Wii seems to be the console to play with friends and family at home, there hasn't been any online multiplayer yet. The idea of having to use unique friend codes on each Wii game doesn't sound so user friendly either.
Today's report from Reuters looks into the issue of Wii's online multiplayer gaming. From the report, George Harrison, Nintendo's vice president of marketing said: "I'm confident there will be third-party titles with online game play by the end of the year. Our first online multiplayer title, 'Pokemon Battle Revolution,' will be out this summer."
While Harrison said plans are underway for Wii online play by summer and end of year, Jamil Moledina, director of the Game Developers Conference (GDC) said "Nintendo's concern is the individual player. There's a danger when you try to match a trend. I think Nintendo's strategy is a good one."
In the meantime, Wii gamers will have to keep with their tupperware-like gatherthings with friends. Is that really a bad thing?

I love my wii but if I had known it was going to take this long to get online up and running I would have bought a 360. It's fun to have people over but many of my friends live out of state. Written by Guest on 2007-05-17 00:00:00 I admit that I've been waiting longer than I hoped, but look at it this way: though online GAMING is taking so long, just think of the online function as a whole. I love all that Wii has to offer, and in my mind, it about evens out. As a matter of fact | actully it already goes online i tired i Written by Guest on 2007-06-24 00:00:00 It goes online now i always use it. He's in marketing (as am I) and knows they don't have a competitive product (or ANY product for that matter) in the online multiplayer space yet.
