God of War II Hidden HD Mode: Can you spot the 25% difference? PDF Print E-mail

Gamers at the GameFAQ forums unlocked the code to a hidden HD mode in God of War 2 at the IslandofRhodes.org web site. Nope, it's not the rumored 720p mode which Sony reps denied existed, but a "640*448" mode. This works for both the PS3 and PS2.

As Tim Moss, Director of Technology at Sony Santa Monica, states: "God of War 2 normally runs at 512 * 448, the 'HD Mode' runs at 640 * 448. Thats a 25% increase in Horizontal resolution. 640 * 448 is pretty much as high as you can run an NTSC Playstation 2 game."

I ran the hidden HD mode on a PS3, but could not see any difference. God of War II gamers disappointed that this didn't make it in the PAL release (because of the limited VRAM memory) won't miss anything. The only difference I noticed was the purple font on the Legal screen. This was on a 1080p CRT, via the component cables (not HDMI) and on a PS3. Let us know if you notice any considerable, if any, differences and on what kind of TV and system.

Here's how to activate it, if you want to try for yourself:
"As the game boots up, before even the White test "SCEA Presents" legal screen comes up. Hold down L1+L2+L3 (Thumbstick Button)+Square+Circle at the same time.

If you did it right, the Legal screen will appear in a shade of purple.

If you are doing this on a PS3, you may need to plug the controller in via USB."
