Microsoft Advises Current Xbox 360 Owners Not To Upgrade To Elite? PDF Print E-mail

On Microsoft's Xbox.com page on the "Hard-Drive Transfer Kit for the Xbox 360 Elite System," Microsoft advises that the Xbox 360 Elite is for new Xbox 360 customers and not existing owners. Instead of purchasing an Elite console, you are advised to go for the 120 GB Hard Drive upgrade ($179.99).

From xbox.com: "This kit lets you transfer content from your Xbox 360™ 20GB hard drive to your Xbox 360 Elite 120GB hard drive. Please be advised that Xbox 360 Elite is intended for new console owners. Users who desire expanded storage are advised to purchase the 120GB hard-drive accessory rather than Xbox 360 Elite. For those still wishing to transfer data from an existing Xbox 360 console to Elite, please use the following instructions."

CNET has reported problems with Xbox Live Arcade titles going into demo mode and movies that were purchased on the 20 Gig HD will not be viewable on the Elite after transferring the data. Have you upgraded to an Xbox 360 Elite from a Premium Xbox 360? How has your experience been?

As pointed out by Spong.com.

This is the same as trying to use your downloaded content on your second or third of fourth refurbished machine.

The majority are being punished because incase a minority copy some content.

I've got issues with the XBLA content that has been
purchased between
two gamertags on my one xbox360. The majority of it had been
purchased under my gamertag/ID so it was obvious that one item that
my wife had purchased under her ID was asking m
THE REAL REASON WHY!

The reason is that ALL of you downloaded content is coded to you 360, not your gamertag or hard drive. If you buy a new rig MS has to refund you ALL of your MS points to redownload the content as it will not be playable offline. I had this happen to me

just delete it all and re download it.. Your gamer tag is marked with all your downloads and if you have purchased it before you can download it for free. I think this is for if your Hard drive crashes. Im pretty sure

The DRM issue is a serious problem if you have multiple accounts on one 360. The transfer (which doesn't copy the license over) stops others on the console from accessing the content. Only the original purchaser (when online) can access the content.

Not sure what all the noise is about. Moved my Xbox Live Account from old machine to new using a memory card. Re-downloaded themes, pictures, maps, tv shows to new Elite. Simple. No problem.

It was no big deal. Anytime you do something like that there are small risks. But for myself and several friends it was actually cheaper to trade in our Premiums and get Elites than to buy the 120GB HDD. Our local GameCrazy hooked us up with almost $300

:?
licenses are tied to your console and xb

so when you transfer all arcade, tv shows, (not movies), it'll check xbox live and see if these licenses are valid.

again, these content are tied to your xbox live account, and the console.
