A Wii title which appeared in part of Nintendo's E3 2006 press kit may be getting revamped or removed from release altogether. Project HAMMER is a Wii title that was under development by Nintendo Software Technology (NST), a American-based first-party developer for Nintendo. The title sounded interesting, if somewhat dark, for Nintendo: "Killer robots are attacking major cities across the United States, and the military is powerless to stop them. Players control one of Project H.A.M.M.E.R.'s cyborg prototypes: half-man, half-machine, with an extraordinary weapon -- and the power to save the world."
Players were to assume the role of M-09, the half-man, half-machine hammer wielding hero. IGN makes an interesting point in why the title may be delayed or not being released at all: "IGN Wii has heard separately that Nintendo is actively re-working some traditional games so that they are more accessible by casual players. If it is truly canned, Project H.A.M.M.E.R. may have become a casualty of Wii's newfound success in the mainstream market." Project HAMMER could no longer be found in any game detail page on nintendo.com or wii.com other than a column of "Other Hot Wii Titles" on this page. We'll keep a lookout on the rumor and bring an update when more information is available. From IGN.
