If you've been keeping up with the Halo 3 viral campaign surrounding "The Society of The Ancients," here's another piece of the puzzle. This afternoon, while on a stroll in New York City's Washington Square, I spotted several teens in orange/yellow tees carrying signs, handing out flyers and randomly blurting out "aliens exist!" Once I saw a sign with "The Society of Ancients" I had made the connection to the Halo 3 viral campaign in circulation.
The flyer (pictured below), has an image of the same Forerunner glyph (in the upper corner of the flyer) that appears on an email from xbox.com (entitled "Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame"). That email was sent out on June 14th and got the whole viral campaign rolling this week. The flyer is a bit blurry but I will be posting another shot soon (sorry, just ran out of battery charge!). There were people chatting about with the bogus "society" about aliens. I have to admit, I felt bad that they were all being had by Microsoft's campaign. When I tried to speak to campaigners of anything related to Halo, they held a pretty straight face and just kept mentioning "aliens." Other sites that have included various reports on the Halo 3 viral (or alternate reality game) include TeamXbox.com and IGN.com. UPDATE: The IP address info on societyoftheancients.com points to " Washington - Redmond - Microsoft Corporation". See the email sent by Microsoft below.
