God of War: Chains of Olympus Taps Into PSP's Full 333 Mhz Power PDF Print E-mail

God of War: Chains of Olympus will be pushing the full PSP's potential. With the PlayStation Portable's firmware 3.50 release, games currently in development will be able to use the full 333 MHz power of the PSP's CPU. Games developed prior to 3.50's release won't get any performance change on the newly accessible 333 Mhz power.

Previous PSP game releases could only utilize up to 266MHz of the PSP's CPU. Keeping the CPU capped at 266 MHz helped to conserve the PSP's battery life. A newer Sony PSP Battery Pack operating at 20% more power (3.6v - 2200mAh) has been released for the PSP, so this wouldn't be so much of an issue nowadays. Who knows, maybe that rumored new PSP could handle it too (we'll have to see if anything on that surfaces at this year's E3).

From Corey Barlog at the PlayStation Blog: "I hear that the official news about unlocking the PSP processor speed is out there. Many people are asking if God of War: Chains of Olympus is going to take advantage of this. The short answer is yes we are! "

And with that, God of War gets its blessing on the PSP. God of War: Chains of Olympus is currently in development at Ready At Dawn Studios.
