A new version of the Sony PSP has been announced by Sony. First, we'll get this out of the way: No built in camera, touch screen or internal harddrive. At Sony's E3 Press Event today, the "PSP Slim & Lite" made its debut. The form and look hasn't changed too much, but it has slimmed down a bit. It’s 33% lighter and 19% slimmer than the original PSP.
Expect a variety of colors, including "Piano Black”, “Ceramic White” and “Ice Silver”, plus three "pearl light" colors - “Felicia Blue”, “Lavender Purple” and “Rose Pink," dubbed the “Blume series.” The speakers have been repositioned from the bottom of the unit to the top. A good move, since the speakers' audio could easily be muffled by hands or by PSP stands/cases. A video-out port has been added to this PSP as well. UMDs, images and movies on a Memory Stick Duo can be played on a TV. Game data can also be temporarily stored on a Memory Stick Duo to improve UMD game loading time. See more images of the PSP Lite below, including the new packaging. The PSP Lite will be launching in the US, Europe and Japan in September 2007.
