No, we aren't getting two-player co-op in Halo 3. We're getting four. Today Bungie confirmed that Halo 3 will not only support two-player co-op gameplay, it will support up to 4-player co-op gaming. You'll be able to play guns blazing through the Campaign Mode with three other buddies over Xbox Live or via System Link.
From Bungie.net:"Apart from the horrifying network challenges this new mode presented us, were the various gameplay balance issues it adds to the fray. So we got it all together, polished it, and that’s why we’re revealing it now. As a result, you’re going to want to play co-op as hard as you can stomach it. We’d certainly recommend Legendary, but we’ll be revealing some more ways to make the game more interesting and challenging for multiple players in the very near future." Playing split-screen will be limited to two players per screen. Your team won't be composed of all Master Chiefs. Player one will be Master Chief, player two be the Arbiter and players three and four will be two new Elite characters, N’tho ‘Sraom and Usze ‘Taham. See them in the image below. All characters will be equally balanced, but will start off with different weapons armed. Great news and another good reason to sink your cash into Halo 3, if you weren't convinced already. From Bungie.
