Check Your Xbox 360 Repair Status On New Xbox Device Service Web Site

Microsoft has launched a new Device Service web site to manage your Xbox 360 repairs. It's supposed to help speed things along, but on the surface it looks more like a way for you to take care of registering your repair online and check on how your Xbox 360 is moving along at the repair center.
From the PR team at Gamerscore Blog: "This new service lets you register your Xbox or Xbox 360 console, setup a repair, and track the status of the repair, all online. This new site lets you create In-Warranty or Out-of-warranty repairs, and even gives you a $5 discount for Out-of-Warranty repairs."
The site gives you the following options once you register your Xbox 360 using its serial number: "1. Create a new repair; 2. Review your repair status; 3. Cancel an existing repair; 4. View your warranty status"
We're not sure how it helps to speed things up in the repair process, other than ensuring your address info is correct and checking your Xbox 360's warranty status (remember, the 3-year warranty covers only the Red Ring of Death associated hardware failure). There's also the option to "cancel a repair," which maybe useful if you have to pay for the Xbox 360's repair and don't want to.
Part of the problem in the turnaround time during a repair is the way the dead Xbox 360 is shipped using the pre-paid boxes. You have to wait about one week to just get a box to ship the 360 to the repair center and wait about another until it gets there, with the UPS shipping method Microsoft is using. Expect about another week to get it back. All just in shipping time, minus the time it takes for the Repair Center to do the fix (or replacement). You could easily be looking at a minimum of 3 weeks to get your Xbox 360 back (with some people reporting about 10 weeks repair time).

We Deserve Better Written by Guest on 2008-04-10 07:52:07Its hard to believe how much forums there are about the 360 repairs!!! Its basically garanteed that every1 will experience faults such as the 3 red lights, if microsoft dont speed up the repair process and make the 360 more reliable then the ps3 will increase in sales, no question. The fault is mainly because of the systems poor cooler system which means that all the wires and solder are prone to burning out, I think microsoft should issue a free super intercooler with all 360 packages to reduce the number of complaints. Iv been waiting 2 months for my console to come back, if doesnt come back soon, im getting a ps3.

It reached the repair center on March 4, it has been 20 days now since they have had it, and still no progress on its repair. I love the 360 (can't play Bioshock on the PS3), but it's in all honesty a big pile of crap, and I'm sick of it. I picked up a PS3 over the holidays, and I think it's a great system, and after my experiences with the 360 I have vowed to buy all future multi-platform games for my PS3. Been playing Vegas 2, with dualshock 3 from Japan, and trust me I'm never gona look back.

The ring of death, of course. Actually, the sad thing is, I'd been teasing my brother about this situation as soon as he'd gotten the Xbox, after hearing of all the deranged harddrive malfunctions... "Every time that you turn it on could be it's last...." :P Well, I suppose the last time I'll EVER get it to work was yesterday. I was the last person to use it before getting the Ring of Death, (playing Oblivion, alas, the irony) and I feel more than a little guilty about it. Hell, I didn't contribute to this Xbox purchase at all, and apparently I'm the last to see it alive. Anyways, in all honesty, I think Microsoft is being a little cheap about this. Instead of sending direct links, they'll give you a vague page location and wish you luck on your way. That entire letter to extend the warranty on consoles with hardrive failure seemed to assure me I could request a repair online, an option that pleased me immensely. But now, after registering the console and all that... amusing.... stuff, I'm faced with a phone number. Well then, that's rather interesting. I think I just got fooled into registering it so they could claim that it's "not under waranty" and therefore not their responsibility. Is there any way to request a repair other than by phone? In all truth, I am rather antisocial, to say the least. Well, at least in my ventures with telephone "support". I could barely understand the support for my Sansa e260, though I suppose that's a completely irrelevant issue. All in all, I can't say this is a good experience, and I'm rather confused as to whom I'm supposed to talk to to get this thing fixed. If I'm this frustrated already, how am I going to feel when I ship the thing away?
f*** Microsoft Written by Guest on 2008-01-23 16:09:04i had my first xbox that worked for about 5 months then i got the rrod so i got the first return box about 4 days later, its in texas for about 4 days then returns for a total of about 2 1/2 weeks. however they ddin't fix it. so i try it again the return box this time with fedex took 1 1/2 weeks, previous was ups. and its been there for three weeks. this is messed up and gay that im still waiting for my xbox to return. if i dont get it back in two weeks im buying a ps3 then when i get my xbox back finally i will prolly fuck it up preatty good by either smashing it, burning it, blowing it up, or all three.

Calls are answered with variations of "Our system is down", or "I'll have my supervisor contact you" which never happens.
This is ridiculous. What could possibly be taking 2 months? There is absolutely no reason it should take this long. That Device Service is crap, how am I supposed to get my fricking serial number, my 360 unit is in Mcallen Texas.

"Yay" Then In one week the xbox already started to show signs that something was wrong. Sent it in again. This time I only waited a week and a half. "Yay" So this is my secound xbox from them in 2 months I carefullly set it up and the first time I powered it up I immediatly got the ring again. Now I am not an xbox expert but I think it should be able to give some game time before it breaks down. The customer service is good but I don't think they know how to repar them. So now I am waiting again for my third refurb with doubts that I will ever have a working xbox again

so i got my xbox back. and what happens?! i turned it on, and i was happily playing halo 3 after a long wait when it froze. i could play the game long without it freezing afterwards, and a few days later it got (a DIFFERENT, "NEW" xbox") the red ring of death and wouldn't turn it in. so i sent it in again and am waiting.

Now where it gets interesting is dependent upon how far from wherever the box/shipment is coming/going to. For an example I'm in Ottawa, Canada and everything comes and goes out of Toronto so I got my box within 3 days, shipped out my pooched Xbox Wednesday and got it back today.
However, what greeted me when I fired it up? Yup, 3 rings of RED. Got right on the horn and said I wanted a NEW Xbox as this was going to be my 4th!!!!!!
Still waiting to see how that plays out.
