During a preview of a playable demo of Epic Games' Unreal Tournament III at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, an unintended showing of one of the game's menu features appeared. GamesDigest caught what was labeled as a "Gamercard" in Unreal Tournament III's game menu. Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games, responded to GamesDigest: “Oops, you shouldn’t have seen that."
The "gamercard" could possibly be Sony's equivalent to the Xbox 360's gamertag, used for keeping player's profiles, stats and gameplay history. Whether this is something that is actually coming to the PS3's home or XMB (cross media bar), or just an in-game feature of Unreal Tournament III, remains to be seen. Sony's Home will also incorporate game "trophies," a similar thing to game "achievements" on the Xbox 360. The PS3 could definitely benefit with a feature such as a gamercard. Online play and friends management on the PS3 feels much more disconnected than on the Xbox 360. With the PS3 nearing to firmware update 2.0, Home getting closer to release and Unreal Tournament III to debut on the PS3 in November, answers will be aligning soon! From GamesDigest
