An all-new Castlevania is in the works for the Nintendo DS. Following the previous Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, the DS adventure is "currently well into development," according to Game Informer. Not much is known beyond that currently. The DS Castlevania games have been among the best Castlevania games released in the current generation, so we have high expectations for the new one in development.

Of course, we've yet to see how the upcoming PSP release of Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles will do, which is scheduled for a November 2007 release. A new bit of information on Dracula X has been revealed. The included version of Castlevania Symphony of The Night will allow you to play as Maria for the first time since the exclusive appearance in the SEGA Saturn version. In previous releases of the game, you could play as Richter (or even wearing Axe Armor) for another play-through of the game. There you go, Symphony of The Night hardcore. Another reason to play after the recent Xbox 360 Arcade and Playstation Network re-releases of the game.

Koji Igarashi also revealed to Game Informer that a new Castlevania is planned for release on the Xbox 360 and possibly the Playstation 3 after the completion of the new DS game. It's been a while since a home console version of Castlevania has appeared, after the disappointing Castlevania Curse of Darkness was released for the Xbox and PS2. Hopefully a rich 2-D version of Castlevania, as was the approach on the PSP Dracula X, will happen.
