Nintendo's upcoming Wii game Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be supporting online play via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The Smash Bros. Dojo made the announcement today. Distance will make a difference in the gameplay performance, as the site states: "But because this form of communication is greatly affected by the distance between you and your opponent, your brawls may not run smoothly if you’re really far apart—like, for instance, if you’re connecting between Japan and America."
You'll have two options of playing online: "With Friends" or "With Anyone." When playing "with friends," you can do things such as send short messages during brawls, update your battle record, check friend's online status and see their name displayed on their character. In "with anyone," you'll be able to take on other players online not on your friends list, minus the "with friends" features previously mentioned. Hmm, does it make much a difference if you were playing AI opponents? More features remain to be revealed on the Wi-Fi mode. With Friends definitely sounds like the better of the two.
