Taito will be releasing yet another Arkanoid, but this remake gets a special touch, or rather, a twist. IGN got a hands-on preview of the title. The DS version of Arkanoid will come with a paddle add-on accessory that plugs into the bottom DS port (where Gameboy carts or rumble packs go). The paddle sounds like the highlight of the conversion to the DS.

From IGN's Craig Harris:"While I'm not excited about the Arkanoid conversion, I absolutely love the paddle. The thing plugs into the Game Boy Advance slot. It's not just a plastic knob either: it actually has weight to it. It spins freely and heavily, and gives players classic analog twist control with tactile feedback - the faster you spin, the faster the paddle will move on-screen. Move it slow and subtle…same thing."

I've been a fan of the Breakout/Arkanoid games, so I'm looking forward to this revival of a classic. Hopefully that DS dead space between screens won't be too much of a pain. Arkanoid DS will be available in December with or without the paddle add-on accessory. The paddle will also be compatible with Taito's upcoming "Space Invaders Extreme" DS game, coming in 2008.
