Halo 3 Limited Edition owners may have a little damper on their Halo 3 launch week. The Halo 3 Limited Edition Game Disc and Essentials Disc are appearing scratched, out of the box. Either the packaging or the discs becoming loose after shipment may be causing the damage. I can confirm it, as both the Limited Edition discs I have on hand are both pretty scuffed up, especially for being fresh out of the box. I haven't noticed a problem in the gameplay performance as a result of the scratched discs.
Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and is offering replacements. Both discs are being offered to be replaced at no charge through 12/31/07. The downside? You may experience two weeks of Halo 3 downtime. Visit xbox.com's Xbox Disc Replacement Program page for directions and a form on how to obtain the free replacement.
