Developed by John Carmack for the mobile platform in 2006, Orcs & Elves gets an enhanced release this November for the Nintendo DS. EA will be publishing the game, based on the Doom RPG engine. Although the game is a new IP from id Software since Quake, the inspiration from D&D came to John Carmack long ago.
From the official Orcs & Elves website: "As a teen, John Carmack was a Dungeon Master of local renown and the people who played his games went out of their way, sometimes driving from State to State, to continue the campaigns started in the years past. Eventually, the old games ended and new ones began but in each adventure, this Fantasy Universe was always full of wondrous things... magical weapons, sorcery, treasures, heroes and monsters. So that's how it all started. The Orcs and Elves Universe is old... and big... really, really big. " Orcs & Elves is an adventure-RPG in which you play an elf venturing through dungeons filled with evil adversaries, riddles and treasures in true Dungeon Master style. Features of Orcs and Elves: • Explore a Dungeon Teeming with Adventure: Travel through a Dwarven citadel’s twelve massive levels, each riddled with evil forces and ancient treasure. • Put your Best RPG Strategies to the Test: Solve devious puzzles, overcome deadly traps, and battle massive forces of foul beasts. • Master Unique Weapons and Items: Wield extraordinary weapons including a sentient wand, a powerful warhammer, and magic swords.
