God of War 2's game director, Corey Barlog, has left Sony Computer Entertainment America, Santa Monica Studios. Corey Barlog also oversaw development of the upcoming God of War: Chains of Olympus. It's been a while since Corey posted an update over at his blog. No word on where he plans to go to just yet.

From a statement by SCEA at 1up.com: "We can confirm that Cory Barlog, game director for God of War II, is leaving the SCEA SM Studio and we are grateful for his work and creative vision for the critically acclaimed God of War franchise," says a Sony spokesperson. "Moving forward, we are confident in the God of War team, as they are an extremely talented group of people that are passionate about the franchise and dedicated to creating even more epic content with God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP and God of War III for PS3."

The team of God of War still churns on, with God of War 3 in development and God of War: Chains of Olympus nearing wraps. No word on who will lead the helm at GOW3 with both God of War game directors David Jaffee, of God of War 1, and Corey Barlog out of Sony's studio.

The history of Kratos continues to be bittersweet.
