Rock Band Special Edition Bundle Shipping Tomorrow For Playstation 2 PDF Print E-mail

MTV Games and Harmonix have announced that the Rock Band Special Edition will start shipping tomorrow for the Playstation 2. Pi Studios worked in collaboration with Harmonix to bring Rock Band to the PS2. Will it outsell the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions as Guitar Hero III on the PS2 did (see November video game sales here)? We'll see how it goes down! The PS2 version will retail for $10 less that the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 release, at $159.99 instead of $169.99.

From the announcement: "The Rock Band Special Edition Bundle for the PlayStation 2 system features a wireless Fender Stratocaster guitar controller, an electronic drum kit, real drum sticks, a microphone and software and has a suggested retail price of $159.99. Standalone Rock Band software for the PlayStation 2 system is also available for the suggested retail price of $49.99. Rock Band for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 use the same instruments so players do not need to buy new instruments if they upgrade their console."

UPDATE 12/19/07: We received a reply from MTV Networks on the availability of Rock Band Special Edition for the PS2. Shipments were sent out yesterday. It was suggested that you call your local retailer and ask if it has been received. It's a busy time for shipping, so keep that in mind. TIP! 12/19/07: If you really want to get a hold of the Playstation 2 version asap, this is what I recommend: Order the PS3 Rock Band Special Edition and the Rock Band PS2 stand-alone game. Both are available now. The bundle comes with a sealed copy of Rock Band for the PS3, which you can re-sell to recoup the cost of the $47.99 PS2 stand-alone version. If the PS3 version doesn't come with a USB hub (360 version does), you will also need to use a 4-port USB hub or get the official Rock Band one. That shouldn't be too tough. As the press release from MTV Games states: "Rock Band for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 use the same instruments so players do not need to buy new instruments if they upgrade their console." It'll be much cheaper than bidding on a PS2 special edition on eBay and will help you in getting it in time for Christmas.

I called two Walmart stores in my area today and they both had at least two bundles left. I was able to pick one up. Call your local Walmart now cuz they may have one!

I was told that no one knew when they would be available (at EB Games)... Then we were shopping at Sam's Club and found 3 @ $149. You might check Sam's!

I just got one at Wal-Mart in Houston. The one by my house (The Woodlands)kept telling me Jan. 2 or Dec. 28th from Best Buy. I was in there about three hours ago and just thought I would ask. Sure enough, they got 4 yesterday and it took ALL DAY to sell out!!! I guess no one was expecting them....like me. He called around and found 2 each at 2 different stores, only one was near me. They held it for me for 30 minutes and I drove like crazy. By the time I got there all the rest were gone! I did have to tell my kids what I was doing and ruin their present since I had no sitter, but who cares,I got it! :) Hurry up and call all your nearest Wal-Mart's just incase!!

Either the company has a poor managment team who failed to react to quality problems or they are manufacturing free advertising by under shipping. . either way it stinks.

yes the ps3 instruments work on PS3. Harmonix and MTV games confirmed it. So did someone right below who did it. They both work through USB. Plus you can always use the PS3 version when you upgrade to the PS3!

I got it today at Walmart in Ohio they said they only got 4 of them in they said that each Walmart only got 4! What a joke....why even say it would be available for Christmas??? Good luck to everyone looking for this item

We just did as recommended and it really works. I have been at stores all week long waiting for the PS2 version but now we are playing it and I no longer have to worry about lines or Ebay prices. Thanks so much for this tip!

Absolutely Insane!! I also ordered the Spec Edition on Amazon in early November only to have my order cancelled. No one has it & I'm being told it won't be available until Feb!! They knew this would be a hot item for Xmas this year. GameStop even told me that they were instructed by the manufacturer not to take any more pre-orders. They did it intentionally to help Ebay sellers make a bloody fortune! Good luck to everyone else1 I hope that you get one for Christmas.

This is insane!! Why can't the manufacturer tell the stores when this game bundle will be shipped, and why can't they make enough of them for the demand!!! I had one pre-ordered from Amazon.com since November thinking I was set for Christmas...wrong!... they cancelled my order! Now, I'm scrambling to find one too, or find something to replace it with! I thought I was finished with my Christmas shopping, but thanks to all of this mess, I'm still not sure what I'm going to be getting my daughter for Christmas! That's all she wanted!

I spent the morning at my Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy stores--they have no idea if/when the PS2 Rock Band bundles will arrive!

Best Buy online had it and sold out in mins. Walmart says that the release date is pushed back for them into Jan. Ebay has it for $500 +.
