Xbox 360 LIVE Gold Members To Be Compensated For LIVE Downtime PDF Print E-mail

If you've been playing on your Xbox 360 sometime in the past week, you've probably noticed the outages on Xbox LIVE. Most of you probably noticed while trying to play some Halo 3 or COD4, or even downloading some gamerpics (like me when I tried getting those snazzy free Terminator gamerpics and got a weird error message). The performance was definitely shaky.

A rough thing to happen during the holidays, for gamers and Microsoft's Xbox 360 team. Xbox 360's Major Nelson acknowledged and reported on the problem. Who knows if Xbox 360 gamers were spending extra time on their consoles or whether it was the influx of new Xbox 360 members (or some other technical issues) that caused the LIVE network to shake-up. Things appear to be working fine now.

While there hasn't been any official announcement from Microsoft on what (or if) they are compensating LIVE members for the downtime, gaming site The Bitbag received a reply from an unnamed Microsoft representative: "…we will definitely be doing something for our Gold members that weren’t able to get online over the last week.”

We'll keep you posted on any official announcements of compensation from Microsoft. You can check the status of the Xbox LIVE service here on xbox.com (upper right corner box).

UPDATE 1/4/08: Xbox LIVE's General Manager has posted an open letter and said the compensation will be a free Xbox LIVE Arcade game. Read more here.
