Activision has ranked as the number one console and handheld developer for 2007, according to the NPD Group. Their ranking is based on their dominating market share, which translates for gamers as: “how much we like your games and are willing to dole out cold hard cash for them.”

Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc., commented, "For the first time in our history, we were the #1 U.S. publisher for the calendar year. We are well on our way to delivering sixteen years of record revenue growth and by far our most profitable year ever."

This achievement is greatly due to Call of Duty 4 and Guitar Hero 3, the most sought after game this past Giftmas season. CoD4 has the respect of FPS fans and Guitar Hero 3 is good enough to attract both avid lovers and scathing critics. It even inspired an episode of Southpark. With the quality of CoD4, gamers may be able to dull the cynicism a little with respect to the upcoming Activision/Vivendi take on World of Warcraft.
