Xbox 360 Gamers To Get FPS Leverage With FPS Freek Add-on PDF Print E-mail

You may have come across the odd little "u" shaped add-on for the Xbox 360 Controller's thumb sticks, known as the SpeedFreek. The clip-on extension for the 360's thumb sticks is said to "enable quicker and sharper movements, while adding control and precision" in racing games like PGR 4, Forza 2, DiRT or even games like Skate. I'm itchin' to give it a go at drifts and sharp corners in Burnout Paradise (mine's in the mail, with a review coming soon). Well the ergonomic designers at KontrolFreek are at it again, with a unique extension for FPS gamers.

The FPS Freek is the newest Xbox 360 thumb stick extension by KontrolFreek. Below is a 3d rendered model of the FPS Freek. Where the SpeedFreek cradles your thumbs on the left and right to prevent slippage, the FPS Freek adds both length and leverage. How does this benefit you? As described on KontrolFreek's site: "More leverage = less force to move. More length = more precise character movement and more precise aiming." We're not sure if these are allowed in MLG competitions, but it sounds like something worth trying out on heated Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4 online matches. The prototype testing by KontrolFreek also noted adjusting controller sensitivity in-game may be needed for precision aiming.

Check out all the details on KontrolFreek.com. Pricing and release date has not been announced and the name of the FPS Freek is subject to change. Sign-up for pre-order and you'll get a 20% discount upon release.

UPDATE 2/11/08: We have an exclusive interview with KontrolFreek's Donnie Walker about the FPS Freek. When will it be released? How much? Will MLG allow it? Those are some of the answers you'll find in the podcast. Listen to GamingBits Podcast Reboot #2 here. Subscribe to the weekly podcast here.

I've tried this, it's a fantastic product and it really does improve accuracy. There's also an attachment for racing games that is a little different but offers similar control.
Seems pointless to me.

There is a pretty interesting story on KF's website about how one of their products DID help change a user's life. We ought to give this thing the benefit of the doubt until we try it. I read the same trash comments on KF's first product SpeedFreek
