Looks like there will be more Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournaments beyond the previously announced, and somewhat limited, Nintendo and Best Buy tourneys. A new line of tournaments will be taking place, following the March 9th launch of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. GameStop will be hosting the nationwide tournament at its stores throughout the month of March until the Grand Finals on April 12, 2008.
What's at stake? The Grand Prize includes a 37" Plasma TV, the entire Nintendo first-party library of Wii games, a Wii console, $150 in Nintendo Wii accessories, $5,000 in cash and a Grand Prize Trophy (valued at $500!). Second place gets a $1,000 GameStop gift card, and 8 semifinalists get a trophy and the regional winner gets a 2 day/2 night trip to the final match in San Jose. How do you sign-up? All contestants must check-in with the onsite GameStop Tournament Director (“GTD”) at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the start of play. Dates and locations of the tournaments will be: - Round 1, March 8, 2008: See GameStop store locations. - Round 2, March 15, 2008: See GameStop store locations. - Round 3, March 29, 2008: See GameStop store locations. - Round 4, April 12, 2008: Grand Finals at GameStop Tournament Center In San Jose. See the full details at GameStop.com. Can't attend the tournaments or looking for a web site that can help you in arranging matches, rankings and tracking tournaments for Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Checkout Smash Brawl Rankings. "Our site is aimed at players who want to play competitive Smash Brawl, though we also feature friendly matches. We have an entire system set up for ranking, including a reliability rating design, to keep cheaters from prospering," said Sam Bookler, one of the site's creators. The registration on the site has been on the rise, so be sure to join up, and rank up, here. A demo of the Rankings is shown, but it isn't active yet of course. Check out Smash Brawl Rankings, and look for me, rivithed, on there (go easy on me!). Finally, if you haven't seen Nintendo's 30 second commercial for what's likely to be the biggest Wii release yet, see it below!
