Nintendo's UK site for Mario Kart Wii reveals more on the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection enabled features for the game, as well as what's planned for the new Mario Kart Channel.

There will be 3 options for going online: random races in Worldwide or Continental matches, or play with your friends in the Friends option. Up to 12 players can compete online at the same time.

You can Create a Room or join a friend currently online. That's where you can "chat" with friends, but using predefined messages (text bubbles). It's noted that "the globe familiar from the Forecast Channel" will be used to show where everyone is from.

Another feature of Mario Kart Wii is a new channel for the Wii Menu. A new channel will be installed to your Wii console, the Mario Kart Channel. You can check Rankings in Competitions and Time Trials, as well as seeing if any of your friends are online, without having to use the Mario Kart Wii disc. Nintendo will also invite players to "speedy challenges" via the Mario Kart Channel.

The UK release date for Mario Kart Wii is April 11, 2008. No official release date has been announced for the US yet.
