Sony is touting that its PlayStation Network will offer free multiplayer for all PS3 users. The Xbox Live service currently requires a $50 yearly membership to play multiplayer games 24/7. "Sony is playing catch-up in online," said P.J. McNealy, an analyst at American Technology Research. "Microsoft is a couple of steps ahead, so Sony has to take these steps." Video, music, game demos (game demos on Xbox Live are free, so this may change) and playing MMORPGs online will come at a cost. Wireless connectivity to the PS3 via the Sony PSP will allow movie playback, possibly using a similar method to Sony's LocationFree Player.
