Bionic Commando's side-scrolling revival, coming to the Xbox LIVE Arcade and PLAYSTATION Store, gets a Mature rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). The Bionic Commando blog has revealed the final ratings for Bionic Commando Rearmed in various regions:
- North America (ESRB): M Could this sabotage Capcom and developer GRIN's attempt at reviving the game for a new generation? Can Capcom make profit on the game that the community voted to go for $10 (rather than $15)? M Rated titles are the minority on the Xbox 360's Xbox LIVE (DOOM, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Marathon: Durandal) and PLAYSTATION 3's PLAYSTATION Store (Mortal Kombat II, Cash Guns Chaos). Regardless, Capcom is sticking to their guns to remain true to the Bionic Commando game experience. From the Bionic Commando page: "It was a tough decision to make, but it came down to either paying homage to the original game and taking the higher rating "hit", or to watering down one of the most important scenes of the original," said Ben Judd, producer of the game, "No doubt, when the original team made an infamous dictator as the original bad guy and showed his demise in explosive 8-bit glory, they too were taking some serious risks." Check out the Bionic Commando Communicator for a relay of the message. The "M" rating for 5 seconds of game footage? Do you think Capcom should have censored the game to reach a wider audience?
