Arriving a day earlier than announced, the Metal Gear Online (MGO) Beta is now available for download. If you pre-ordered Metal Gear Solid 4 and received a Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD or lucked out and received a voucher code from this Konami website, you can now download the install file for MGO. After entering the voucher code via [Account Management] on the XMB and then "Transaction Management," you can download the 741 MB file. There is an option to download the file in the background. In the meantime, you'll want to get your Konami ID and Game ID here, if you haven't done so already. There are two options after you install and launch the Beta: Start Game and Trailer. The trailer shows a sampling of gameplay. If you select Start Game, you will be prompted to download an update (1.01). Be prepared for more waiting time (could be over an hour to download). After you've installed the latest update, you will be at the ID Menu. Three options are there: Enter GAME ID and Log In (which you won't be able to do until 4/21/08), Go to KONAMI ID Portal (to register for Konami ID and Game ID, here via web browser) and Online Manual (points here, via web browser). Good thing all of this is in advance of actually going live with gameplay. The playable debut of the Metal Gear Online Beta begins next week, starting April 21, 2008 (Monday). So although you may be able to download and get the MGO Beta setup, the gameplay doesn't start until April 21st (unless Konami and Sony have another surprise for us). The MGO Beta is scheduled to run until May 5, 2008. See more details on the Metal Gear Online Beta here. UPDATE: If you are having problems with your "Voucher Code" and cannot download the MGO Beta, looks like Konami printed some erroneous codes. Your code should consist of 12 letters/numbers. If you have 9 or 11, it will not work. An email from Konami Support says: "Please copy your code exactly as it appears on your voucher in your reply to this email. We’re very sorry for this inconvenience and we will do our best to rectify the situation in time for the Beta start." The email address it should be addressed to is . This was posted at Gamersreports.com. You may also want to try the email support contact form on Konami's website.
