The March NPD videogame sales numbers are in. The videogames industry remains a healthy place to be as sales total $1.7 billion for March 2008.
For March videogame hardware sales, Nintendo remains strong in the top two spots. The Wii ranks in at #1 and the Nintendo DS ranks in at #2. “Nintendo systems represented 58 percent of all video game hardware sold in March in the United States,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “We expect our momentum to continue with big upcoming game launches like Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit.” Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 system sales are very close to each other, but the Sony PSP edged out both home consoles for the #3 spot. For March 2008 videogame software sales, it's no surprise that Wii's Super Smash Bros. Brawl dominated the list, selling 2.7 million units since March 9, 2008. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (Xbox 360 version) was close to the top spot at #2, however, the PLAYSTATION 3 version didn't make the top 10. Sony PSP games God of War: Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII made a strong showing at #5 and #6. Then there's the usual chart toppers: Wii Play w/Remote, Guitar Hero III and Call of Duty 4.
