June 2008 NPD Group's videogame sales data is in. It was a big month for the Wii. For Nintendo, really. The Wii has officially become the #1 seller of videogame hardware for this generation of gaming consoles. The PLAYSTATION 3 has gained ground thanks to Metal Gear Solid 4 (its only title on the top ten, but representing at the #1 spot). The Xbox 360 may have had its toughest month yet, both on the hardware and software front. There's plenty of ways the data can be sliced and diced, but check out the videogame hardware and software numbers for themselves below:

June 2008 Videogame Hardware Sales (in units):
Nintendo DS - 783k
Wii - 666.7k
PLAYSTATION 3 - 405k
PlayStation Portable - 337k
Xbox 360 - 220k
PS2 - 188k

June 2008 Videogame Software Sales (in units):

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3) – 774.6k

Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure (Wii) - 294.5k
Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure (DS) - 267.8k
Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure (PS2) - 260.3k

July 2008 forecast? Guitar Hero Aerosmith and Soulcalibur IV (although it just comes in the last week) may be making their way up the charts. July numbers may represent some games that were actually released in the last week of June. Rock Band Wii? Will Alone in the Dark be able to make an impact following the reviews? Other titles that may show up in the top ten could include Civilization Revolution, Battlefield: Bad Company and Unreal Tournament III.
