Sony's Big Plans For MMO Gaming On The PLAYSTATION 3 |

Sony is planning on bringing gamers together in a bigger way than ever before. The PlayStation E3 2008 press conference introduced large scale multiplayer gaming plans for the PS3 with MAG, short for "Massive Action Game." The game is touting 256 player battles. It's a big effort in itself, but not the only one planned for the PS3.
Sony Online Entertainment's PS3 games will also support MMO and persistent gaming (where things keep happening in the world while you're away). Games like The Agency and DC Universe Online will offer co-op and competitive play. The Agency will offer an almost ARG (alternate reality gaming) experience, with communications from characters spanning beyond the game itself (websites, cellphone communicaitons and text messages). PlayStation Home will support up to 64 gamers per area at a time. Home will allow gamers to gather 'round a pond for a race with remote control boats. In the E3 showcased Home themed environments, there was an Uncharted: Drake's Fortune home. You can hang out in a back patio and meet other gamers to share tips.
What I'm getting at is that Sony is definitely planning a big push for MMO/persistent gaming on the PLAYSTATION 3 in ways console gamers haven't experienced before. That vibe was definitely one of the most exciting ones given off at E3 for the PLAYSTATION 3. As was stated above. No one is taking into account purchasing Xbox live accounts. Even with a price drop to $299 the added $40 or 60$ dollars you pay for the online service brings the price up to $340/$360. Spending $399 on a system that offers free online service, plus a Blu-Ray player, which offers more space for games than the format being used by the Xbox, not to mention that now Xbox is releasing the pro system with a 60 gig hard drive, something PS3 defiantly offers at a lower price. Seems to me this is the year of the PS3. | Network connections could be roadblock

I have a fast DSL connection that is wired (not wireless) for my PS3 and works great. But, I see trouble for many players with slow connections or even wireless... That will be the biggest hurdle. | tru

Good idea but who knows if they'll be able to pull it off, heres hoping! :)
This just makes and already great ps3 lineup even better, if this is good it will be a must buy for anyone who considers themselves an online gamer. | ppl with 369's are stupid

I'm starting to understand what SONY meant with Play beyond, 256 players online, 50gb Metal Gear, Ingame Communication outside the game, Real-time 3d network lobbies, the cell proccessor adapted in the worlds most powerfull computer, everything strictly says:

PS3 is showing gamers a huge reasen to purchase an expensive system with games like MAG having more than 200 players and have great graphics if that's not a reason to sell your 360 or Wii to buy a PS3 than i don't know what is |
