Videogame sales keep going strong, no matter the economic climate. The NPD Group is reporting another growing month of game sales over this month last year. Nintendo still firmly holds the top two game hardware spots with the DS and Wii. Nintendo also has 5 of the top 10 games sold in July 2008. "Various types of games for the Nintendo systems are represented in the top 10, demonstrating how we continue to break down the barriers between veteran and new players," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. The PS3 leads the Xbox 360, thanks to that PLAYSTATION 3 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle, and exclusivity.

July 2008 Game Hardware Sales (units sold):
1. Nintendo DS - 608.4K
2. Wii - 555K
3. PLAYSTATION 3 - 224.9K
4. PSP - 221.7K
5. Xbox 360 - 204.8K
6. PS2 - 155.5K

2- Wii Fit w/ Balance Board - 369.6K
3- Guitar Hero On Tour (Nintendo DS) - 309.7K

9- PS3 Soul Calibur IV (PS3) - 155.8K
10- Civilization Revolution, Take-Two (Xbox 360) - 147.6K

August 2008 should be a good month for the DS Lite, with the Limited Edition Pokémon DS Lite bundle. The PSP may also get a boost from the Madden NFL 09 Metallic Blue Bundle. Will the steam of Metal Gear Solid 4 begin to come to a slowdown for PS3 sales? As for the games, Madden NFL 09 will definitely be on the list.
