Want Survival Horror On The Wii? Petition For Winter On Wii PDF Print E-mail

Winter is an original survival horror game for the Wii, which may never see a release on the system. In development by n-Space exclusively for the Wii, the game hasn't found a publisher. Much like the Wii game Sadness has struggled for a publisher, it seems like game publishers are getting boxed into thinking the Wii's just for casual, younger or family gamers. Who would want to play a survival horror game on the Wii? If you would, read on.

Winter was to put gamers in the role of a young woman caught in a small town during a snowstorm. It looked like it had the roots of survival horror. A mysterious, unnerving and inhospitable environment that called for some creative solutions. The Wii's motion control is used for intuitive interaction with objects. It's the little things that add to a more immersive experience. Things such as tapping the Wii Remote like a flashlight to get it working. Or gently pulling the Wii Remote backwards to peer through doors.

Winter sounded like it was well on its way to the Wii, but stalled when game publisher's sales and marketing departments didn't know what to do with it. "Pitching anything that isn't a kid's game for the Wii is an uphill battle," said n-Space president Dan O'Leary. Can survival horror survive on the Wii? The Wii broke many conventions when it came out, but one of its toughest battles seems to be that with the core gaming crowd.

It's good to see publishers like SEGA bringing games to the Wii such as MadWorld and The Conduit, or Ubisoft publishing No More Heroes. So at this point, what can you do to help show there is an interest for bringing Winter to the Wii? Sign this petition online, which has just recently hit over the 10,000 mark.
