MadWorld's game developers from Platinum Games, Atsushi Inaba (Producer) and Shigenori Nishikawa (Game Designer) attended the New York Comic Con '09 to share their thoughts and experience in bringing the game to the Wii. Read our interview below on how MadWorld ended up on the Wii, some if its inspirations, and some thoughts on the game ratings system, straight from the guys who created the Wii game, MadWorld GamingBits: "How did the concept for MadWorld come about?" Atsushi: "We wanted to created something new for the Wii, with an original graphic style." GamingBits: "Where did you draw some of the inspiration for MadWorld? In films or comics?" Shigenori: "Actually, many people talk about Sin City as a reference but it's not really Sin City, but really more of the classic american comic book style which we are fans of. We read many, many comic books, which were an inspiration to the graphic style." GamingBits: "Is MadWorld a game that will be released to other regions, besides the US? Is censorship a concern? If it is released outside of the US, would you modify the contents if necessary?" Atsushi: "MadWorld will be released in America and European countries, except for Germany, because in Germany the rating is very severe. Also, the game will not be released in Japan. We didn't want any modification to the game, because it would break the game's style. Unfortunately, people in Japan and Germany cannot play the game." GamingBits: "Do you think games are rated on the same scale, or as equally balanced, as movies are rated?" Shigenori: "We think the ratings on games are very severe and strict in comparison to movies. Maybe the reason why the ratings are a bit stricter on games is the interactive nature of games." Atsushi: "I think it is a bit severe and would like to see this changed." GamingBits: "Would you ever consider producing MadWorld outside of the Wii platform? To systems like the PLAYSTATION 3 or Xbox 360?" Atsushi: "The controls were designed specifically for the Wii. The way it currently is, it's best for the Wii. The game has not yet been released, and we need to wait and see how the consumers react to it before making a decision for porting to other systems." GamingBits: "Why did Platinum Games decide to go with SEGA as a partner in distributing MadWorld?" Atsushi: "Before making the partnership, Platinum Games met with many companies before meeting SEGA. SEGA allowed us the freedom to release the games that we wanted to make." GamingBits: "What are some of your favorite parts about MadWorld? What are you most excited about?" Shigenori: "My favorite part is the chainsaw action with the Wii Remote." Atsushi: "I really like the drama that is shown through the cutscenes. The story is actually really interesting." GamingBits: "Was Running Man an influence on MadWorld's premise?" Shigenori: "Well, Running Man is among one of my favorite movies, and actually the setting of the game show is unique. The setting is reasonable to make different games. It's probably one of the inspirations, but certainly not all of it." GamingBits: "About how long is the single player game? Is there anything that gamers can come back to again and again, like mini-games?" Shigenori: "For the single player, it's mainly like 10 hours, but when you reach the goal, you can continue the game because of the many challenges that are added to the game. Each area has mini-games called Blood Bath challenge. You can also play with your friends. There are about 11 mini-games." GamingBits: "On one of the video promos for MadWorld, there was like a game show setting (for Death Watch). Is any of that in the game, or is MadWorld completely in black & white?" Shigenori: "Everything is in black & white." GamingBits: "What was one of the most challenging parts in developing MadWorld?" Shigernori: "The most challenging part was to create the best balanced action game on the Wii. An action game requires broad gameplay. Also the limitations on graphics in comparison to other platforms." GamingBits: "What do you want gamers to get out of MadWorld?" Shigenori: "There are a lot of creative moves, so I want players to try everything out to find the most creative kills, and to have a good time and laugh at the game." Atsushi: "The game looks very violent, but as a game itself, it is very well balanced. So I want gamers to enjoy the gameplay." GamingBits: "Is there anything else you'd like to share with readers about MadWorld?" Shigenori: "For the people who have both a PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360 who do not have a Wii, buy both a Wii and MadWorld." Atsushi: "To the people who already own the Wii and haven't been using it, now's the time to use it with MadWorld." Thanks to SEGA, Platinum Games and Atsushi Inaba and Shigenori Nishikawa for making this interview possible! MadWorld
